JEE Main 2024 — 31 January, Shift 2 — Question 49

Light from a point source in air falls on a convex curved surface of radius 20 cm and refractive index 1.5. If the source is located at 100 cm from the convex surface, the image will be formed at cm from the object.

Answer: 200

Numerical answer — enter this value.

Step-by-step solution

μ2v−μ1u=μ2−μ1R\frac{\mu_{2}}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{\mu_{1}}{\mathrm{u}}=\frac{\mu_{2}-\mu_{1}}{\mathrm{R}}

1.5v−1−100=1.5−120\frac{1.5}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{1}{-100}=\frac{1.5-1}{20}

v=100 cm\mathrm{v}=100 \mathrm{~cm}

Distance from object =100+100=100+100

=200 cm=200 \mathrm{~cm}
