JEE Main 2026 — 23 January, Morning Shift — Question 47

In two separate Young's double-slit experimental set-ups, two monochromatic light sources of different wavelengths are used to get fringes of equal width. The ratios of the slit separations and that of the wavelengths of light used are 2:12: 1 and 1:21: 2 respectively. The corresponding ratio of the distances between the slits and the respective screens ( D1/D2\mathrm{D}_{1} / \mathrm{D}_{2} ) is ____\_\_\_\_。

Answer: 4

Numerical answer — enter this value.

Step-by-step solution

β1=β2\beta_{1}=\beta_{2}

D1λ1 d1=D2λ2 d2D1D2=λ2λ1( d1 d2)=2×2\begin{aligned} & \frac{\mathrm{D}_{1} \lambda_{1}}{\mathrm{~d}_{1}}=\frac{\mathrm{D}_{2} \lambda_{2}}{\mathrm{~d}_{2}} & \frac{\mathrm{D}_{1}}{\mathrm{D}_{2}}=\frac{\lambda_{2}}{\lambda_{1}}\left(\frac{\mathrm{~d}_{1}}{\mathrm{~d}_{2}}\right) & =2 \times 2 \end{aligned}

D1D2=4\frac{\mathrm{D}_{1}}{\mathrm{D}_{2}}=4
