JEE Main 2025 — 7 April, Morning Shift — Question 7

Given below are two statements : one is labelled as Statement I and the other is labelled as Statement II:

Statement I: Mohr's salt is composed of only three types of ions-ferrous, ammonium and sulfate.

Statement II: If the molar conductance at infinite dilution for ferrous, ammonium and sulfate ions are x1,x2\mathrm{x}_{1}, \mathrm{x}_{2} and x3Scm2 mol−1\mathrm{x}_{3} \mathrm{Scm}^{2} \mathrm{~mol}^{-1}, respectively then the molar conductance for Mohr's salt solution at infinite dilution would be given by x1+x2+2x3x_{1}+x_{2}+2 x_{3}

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. Option A:

    Both Statements-I and Statement-II are false

  2. Option B:

    Both Statements-I and Statement-II are true

  3. Option C:

    Statement-I is false but Statement-II is true

  4. Option D:

    Statement-I is true but Statement-II are false

    Correct

Answer: D

Step-by-step solution

Mohr's salt is FeSO4(NH4)2SO4⋅6H2O\mathrm{FeSO}_{4}\left(\mathrm{NH}_{4}\right)_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4} \cdot 6 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}

(λM∘)Mohr salt =x1+2x2+2x3\left(\lambda_{\mathrm{M}}^{\circ}\right)_{\text {Mohr salt }}=\mathrm{x}_{1}+2 \mathrm{x}_{2}+2 \mathrm{x}_{3}
