JEE Main 2024 — 5 April, Shift 1 — Question 34

Given below are two statements : one is labelled as Statement I and the other is labelled as Statement II :

Statement-I: Figure shows the variation of stopping potential with frequency ( vv ) for the two photosensitive materials M1\mathrm{M}_{1} and M2\mathrm{M}_{2}. The slope gives value of he\frac{\mathrm{h}}{\mathrm{e}}, where h is Planck's constant, e is the charge of electron.

Statement-II: M2\mathrm{M}_{2} will emit photoelectrons of greater kinetic energy for the incident radiation having same frequency.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below.

Question figure
  1. Option A:

    Statement-I is correct and Statement-II is incorrect.

    Correct
  2. Option B:

    Statement-I is incorrect but Statement-II is correct.

  3. Option C:

    Both Statement-I and Statement-II are incorrect.

  4. Option D:

    Both Statement-I and Statement-II are correct.

Answer: A

Step-by-step solution

V0=hev−ϕe\mathrm{V}_{0}=\frac{\mathrm{h}}{\mathrm{e}} \mathrm{v}-\frac{\phi}{\mathrm{e}}

M2\mathrm{M}_{2}

material has higher work function, so statement-(II) is incorrect. Option (1) is correct.
