JEE Main 2024 — 29 January, Shift 1 — Question 33

A convex mirror of radius of curvature 30 cm forms an image that is half the size of the object. The object distance is :

  1. Option A:

    -15 cm

    Correct
  2. Option B:

    45 cm

  3. Option C:

    -45 cm

  4. Option D:

    15 cm

Answer: A

Step-by-step solution

figure

Given R=30 cm\mathrm{R}=30 \mathrm{~cm}

f=R/2=+15 cm\mathrm{f}=\mathrm{R} / 2=+15 \mathrm{~cm}

Magnification (m)=±12(\mathrm{m})= \pm \frac{1}{2}

For convex mirror, virtual image is formed for real object. Therefore, mm is +ve 12=ff−u\frac{1}{2}=\frac{\mathrm{f}}{\mathrm{f}-\mathrm{u}}

u=−15 cm\mathrm{u}=-15 \mathrm{~cm}
